Alex is a warrior on many levels. After surviving bilateral breast cancer and learning she carries a genetic mutation, she devoted herself to fundraising for breast cancer causes and supporting others through their journeys. Then, just one year ago, she was tested again by a devastating spinal cord injury that led to three months in hospital, six surgeries, and more complications than most could imagine enduring.

Out of that struggle came Fierce Zelda — a fictional character inspired by Alex’s journey and strength. Through Fierce Zelda, she now creates Stitches of Strength, using her sewing and creativity to raise funds for COPE Service Dogs. Alex qualifies for a service dog to help with balance and everyday tasks like opening doors, and this mission has become deeply personal. Based in Barrie, COPE successfully uses kids at risk in the classroom to help train the dogs. By fall, you may just see Alex out on her new pontoon boat, with her service dog proudly by her side.

I have been a quilter, embroiderer and sewer for many years – it is in my family blood! My mom was a master hand-weaver, fashion designer and sewer, and my daughter loves to embroider, sew and craft. We believe in including upcycled materials in our projects.

Thomas Morton (Morton Muskoka Chairs)

Thomas has been building Muskoka Chairs since 2012, first in his parents’ basement, now from his workshop in Huntsville, where he lives with his wife, Maggie. Since then he has expanded to a wide variety of products such as large signs for Algonquin Park and the Canadian National Exhibition. Usually working with a Muskoka theme, he has also expanded into lake maps, jewellery, games, souvenirs, and household items such as coasters, cutting boards, and seasonal decorations. He’s always looking forward to the next new design, and enjoys the challenges brought by custom projects.

You can find his work year round at The Shipyards Muskoka Marketplace in Gravenhurst.

Jon & Heather Rennie (Oak & Darling)

Jon & Heather (Oak & Darling) have been creating handcrafted wood decor and furniture since 2016. They specialize in wood wall art, as well as tables and benches (custom orders are welcome). In 2025 they started creating custom cottage and road signs using wood and HDPE and are excited to offer this line of products to residents and cottagers on Six Mile Lake.

Available: All year (cottage pickup available May-October, shipping available anytime, or pickup in Whitby)

Morgan Adams (Adams Mercantile)

Founded in 2022, Adams Mercantile started with handmade gemstone jewelry, and expanded to homemade preserves (in a certified kitchen), art, home decor, textiles and more! Six Mile Lake favourites include Cowboy Candy (Candied Jalapenos) and Garlic Dill Pickles.

Owner Morgan Adams is a a “jill of all trades” and created Adams Mercantile, with her husband Joe Adams, as a way to share all of their homesteading creative endeavours in one place – a pop up Mercantile-type shop. With old favourites and new items to discover every year, everyone is bound to find something they love. We would love for you to visit us!
